To achieve Indonesia's Golden Vision 2045, the government aims for a 28.5% economic contribution from the Eastern Indonesian regions. Minister of National Development Planning/Head of the National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas), Suharso Monoarfa, highlights the potential of tourism and creative economy in Bali and Nusa Tenggara, as well as the fisheries, plantations, forestry, and mining industries in Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua, to drive this contribution.
In the next 20 years, Eastern Indonesia's role is expected to take different directions. Firstly, Bali and Nusa Tenggara are envisioned as a superhub for Nusantara's international-level tourism and creative economy, fostering the development of these industries in Eastern Indonesia. Maluku, secondly, is designated as the maritime hub of Eastern Indonesia, focusing on the development of the blue economy through sustainable utilization of marine resources and other assets. Lastly, Kalimantan is positioned to become a superhub for the Nusantara's economy, potentially serving as an agglomeration center to promote economic equality within the Eastern Indonesian region. These strategic directions aim to bolster economic growth and development in the Eastern regions, contributing to Indonesia's long-term vision.
