The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) has signed 15 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to enhance economic cooperation and boost trade between the two countries. The substantial business potential, evident from last year's trade performance amounting to USD 5.9 billion or approximately IDR 88.7 trillion (at an exchange rate of IDR 15,035 per USD). Through this collaboration, it is projected that the trade value between the two nations will further increase. The signing of these MoUs aims to expand business networks and enhance potential cooperation with countries in the Southeast Asian region (ASEAN). There are several potential sectors that can be collaborated between Hong Kong and Indonesia. These sectors include financial and banking services, technology, transportation, logistics, market expansion, and legal services.
HKTDC often organizes world-class events that serve as platforms to showcase Indonesian products. These activities encompass at least 26 product exhibitions and international conferences, attracting around 518,000 buyers and international participants with 176,000 attendees. There are numerous mutually beneficial opportunities for cooperation between Hong Kong and Indonesia. Following this agreement, detailed business management will be further discussed within the next two to six months. Beside, the MoUs represent international community's trust in Indonesia as a highly potential business partner. The country offers vast potentials, ranging from its large population to the stable political climate. From Indonesia's perspective, this cooperation will be leveraged to develop new export markets beyond China, the United States (US), and Europe. Additionally, it will explore investment opportunities in various sectors. As the current Chair of ASEAN, Indonesia is being trusted with an opportunity to observe and explore more international business possibilities.
