Indonesia-South Korea Forge Partnership in Implementing Smart Farming Concept

The Indonesian government has collaborated with South Korea to implement the concept of smart farming in an effort to enhance productivity and the quality of agricultural products within the country. The concept of smart farming optimizes the efficient use of technology. The smart farming concept implemented in the Indonesia-South Korea partnership includes the application of several modern technologies to optimize agricultural productivity using intelligent greenhouses. The development of various fruit commodities such as strawberries, tomatoes, and bell peppers using these greenhouses involves a concept of small-scale or microclimate control. The temperature inside the greenhouse can be regulated.

In a smart way, by controlling the microclimate there is a smart greenhouse and inside it, the temperature can be adjusted. Sensors are also used to monitor air humidity, sunlight, and other factors. Additionally, the smart greenhouse incorporates a mechanism for irrigation accompanied by nutrient supply for plants. The concept currently being developed at the Agricultural Training Center (BBPP) Ketindan in Malang Regency is expected to be adopted throughout Indonesia. With the implementation of the smart farming concept, agricultural productivity and quality within the country can be improved, ultimately driving the export of Indonesian agricultural products to global markets. In the long run, the smart farming concept is also expected to be one of the efforts to combat extreme dry seasons or El Nino. The smart farming concept, which is a collaboration with South Korea, enables efficient water usage. This training is a process, education, and awareness, especially for millennial farmers. This implementation is a long-term plan.
