The Indonesian government and Japan are committed to realizing a collaboration for the development of the manufacturing industry, including the promotion of the electric vehicle ecosystem. Indonesian government has been striving to create a conducive business climate for Japanese investors, including facilitating business permits and strengthening investment facilitation services. This effort was followed by a bilateral collaboration between Indonesia and Japan regarding the development of the electric vehicle industry, through a workshop titled "The 1st Workshop on Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Project 2023". The event marked a strategic collaboration between the Ministry of Industry and JICA concerning the gathering of information on the development of the electric motor industry in Indonesia.
As a follow-up to the workshop, the Ministry of Industry and JICA will coordinate in implementing the JICA Project 2023 plan. The Directorate of Industrial Resource Access and International Promotion at the Ministry of Industry will facilitate the execution of surveys and coordinate with various ministries, institutions, and association. This collaboration is a crucial step towards driving economic growth, innovation, and technological transformation. It is hoped that the electric vehicle industry will create new job opportunities, and reducing the environmental impact caused by conventional motor vehicles. The JICA Consulting Team in attendance delivered presentations regarding the agenda and objectives of the JICA Project 2023. The project will involve studies on battery standardization, surveys on the demand for electric motorcycles, battery exchange services, pilot projects, and surveys on the impact on existing conventional motorcycle spare parts manufacturers. The workshop also provided an opportunity for the Ministry of Industry and JICA to receive technical input from relevant stakeholders.
