Agricultural Sector in South Sulawesi Continues to Dominate Economic Growth Contribution

The agricultural sector in South Sulawesi plays a dominant role in contributing to economic growth, amounting to approximately 5.2%. The higher economic growth in South Sulawesi compared to other regions post-pandemic is largely attributed to the significant contribution of the export-oriented agricultural sector. The potential in the agricultural sector will continue to evolve optimally, both in the upstream and downstream segments.

Regarding investments, several projects offered in July 2023 will already synergize with Korean companies, and in the following month, there will be investments from Japanese companies. Particularly for the SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises) nurtured by Bank Indonesia, which also contribute to economic growth, approximately 100 SMEs focus on exporting their products to Jeddah, Hong Kong, the Middle East, and China. These products primarily include culinary items, such as peanuts, palm sugar, and others, with some traditional fabrics being exported to Malaysia.

Bank Indonesia has been providing support to these SMEs through various means, including mentoring, assistance in production facilities (Saprodi), and marketing. Furthermore, Bank Indonesia will collaborate with the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) in South Sulawesi to facilitate SMEs involved in agriculture to supply beverages or snacks for hotel guests. Bank Indonesia are collaborating with their partners to assist farmers and SMEs in synergizing with consumer needs.
