Malang's Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Go International, Establishing an International Chips Market

The city of Malang is set to bolster its industry by creating an international market zone in collaboration with China, focusing on its flagship product, tempe chips. Department of Cooperative, Industrial, and Trade have engaged in discussions with China to develop an international market zone in Indonesia. The Department had recently visited China, accompanied by the Mayor of Malang, to directly observe the production of food and beverage products. The visit was undertaken with the spirit of promoting Malang's UMKM products to the international market. During the visit, The Department witnessed the entire production process, including packaging and marketing and they will adopt and standardize the UMKM products based on what they have seen. In light of this, The Department is implementing a supportive policy to ensure that all MSMEs products meet the export requirements in terms of quality. Additionally, large-scale exhibitions and participation in international events will be organized.

Currently, 36 MSMEs have already engaged in exporting products such as chips, coffee, snacks, and fashion items, with consumers in Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai, and the Netherlands. Malang City has a total of 80,000 MSMEs, with 21,000 products already curated according to the standards. Out of these, 7,000 MSMEs have obtained their Business Identification Numbers (NIB), and 1,762 MSMEs possess halal certifications. The Department of Cooperative, Industrial and Trade aim to continuously increase the number of UMKM with halal certifications this year.
