The Provincial Government of Kepulauan Riau, has successfully forged a mutually beneficial collaboration with the Thailand Tourism Council. This partnership aims to assist each other in promoting tourism products and destinations from both countries. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) took place in Batam on Thursday (July 20). Representing the Province of Kepulauan Riau, the signing was carried out by the Assistant II for Economic Affairs and Development, and Acting Head of the Department of Tourism of Kepulauan Riau. During the speech by the Governor of Kepulauan Riau, the Thailand delegation showed enthusiasm and interest in the presentation about the tourism potential of the Province of Kepulauan Riau. The vast area, population, cities and regencies, as well as the islands that serve as tourist destinations in Kepulauan Riau, were among the highlights for the delegates. The Provincial Government of Kepulauan Riau is always open to collaboration in promoting tourism, as increasing the number of tourists requires the cooperation of many parties.
The delegates also showed enthusiasm when presented with a unique souvenir from the Province of Kepulauan Riau, the Tanjak. Although there was some initial confusion about its use, they warmly welcomed the local culture and creative economic products from the region. This collaboration is expected to strengthen the promotion and development of the tourism sector between the Province of Kepulauan Riau and Thailand. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Indonesian Maritime Tourism Association (ASPABRI) Kepulauan Riau, highly appreciated the agreement between the Provincial Government of Kepulauan Riau and the Thailand Tourism Council as it signifies ongoing efforts to revitalize tourism for the tourism climate in Kepulauan Riau, since tourists from Thailand constitute largest groups visiting the region. The tourism association is ready to provide support to the government in continuing such fruitful partnerships.
