3 Largest Shallot-Producing Regencies in Central Java Reach 5.5 Million Quintals and Successfully Go International

Central Java has emerged as the largest shallot-producing province in Indonesia, with a total of 5,560,575.49 quintals of shallots. The Central Java Provincial Statistics Agency has released data for the largest shallot-producing regencies in the year 2022. Shallots have become a key commodity in Central Java, contributing significantly to high export figures. Notably, the export of shallots from Central Java reached 4 containers or 108 tons in the year 2022. Brebes, Demak, and Grobogan are three regencies in Central Java have successfully established themselves as the leading shallot producers in the region.

Brebes is the largest shallot-producing regency in Central Java. Brebes shallots have become a successful export commodity that is widely shipped to Asian countries such as Thailand and Malaysia. The total shallot production in Brebes is even the largest in Indonesia, reaching 3,844,482 quintals. This figure represents an increase from the production in 2021, solidifying Brebes as the largest shallot-producing regency in Indonesia. Demak regency also contributes significantly to shallot production in Central Java. The recorded shallot production in Demak reached 510,808.70 quintals. While this figure shows a decrease from the production in 2021, shallots from Demak still maintain a position among the top three largest shallot-producing regencies in Central Java. In the third position, the total shallot production in Grobogan for the year 2022 was 245,045 quintals. It shows decrease compared to the shallot production in Grobogan the previous year, which recorded a figure of 261,114 quintals.
