The Department of Trade and Industry of Cirebon Regency, reported that the value of rattan furniture exports in the region reached USD 14.6 million in the first semester of 2023, achieving a record high compared to other commodities. Rattan furniture is one of the leading commodities for export in Cirebon Regency. During the first semester of 2023, the total export of rattan-based furniture from Cirebon Regency amounted to 222 containers valued at USD 14.6 million. Export sector in Cirebon Regency consistently revolves around rattan furniture. This is evident from the numerous medium and large-scale industries engaged in the production of rattan furniture, including home-based industries primarily located in Tegalwangi Village, Weru District. The Department also have centers for rattan furniture production, both in home-based and large-scale industries.
Furthermore, hundreds of containers of rattan furniture from Cirebon Regency were exported to various countries, including Korea, Australia, the United States, Japan, China, Jordan, Singapore, Canada, the Philippines, India, and Malaysia. A significant portion of Cirebon Regency's rattan production is earmarked for exports, while the local market demand remains relatively small. This achievement demonstrates the positive growth of the rattan furniture industry in Cirebon Regency. In 2022, the value of rattan furniture exports amounted to USD 85.99 million, signifying a significant contribution to the local economy. In addition to rattan furniture, Cirebon Regency also boasts other leading commodities such as processed wood, aluminum furniture, shoes, sweet potatoes, meshu sheets, coconut briquettes, wooden furniture, and synthetic furniture. Rattan furniture industry provides a positive impact on economic growth and the well-being of the local community. With the promising performance in the first semester of 2023, the potential for rattan furniture exports from Cirebon Regency will continue to grow even more.
