Pineapples from Lampung Province dominate the global trade market, as do bananas. However, The Minister of Trade acknowledged that there are still some challenges in trading these commodities to various countries, including differing import duty tariffs in each nation. For instance, when exporting to Europe, Japan, and South Korea, each country imposes its own import tax. Therefore, The Ministry are striving to target the implementation of a zero percent import duty tariff for pineapple and banana exports. The Minister explained that in order to expand the application of a zero percent import duty tariff for these commodities, they are also working on collaborations with various countries.
The Ministry of Trade are actively fostering partnerships with different countries to eliminate trade taxes for commodities, particularly pineapples and bananas from Lampung, making them tax-free. The Minister also emphasized that with the implementation of a zero percent import duty tariff for these commodities, it is expected that the local commodity market will expand further. It is known that in the efforts to expand the application of a zero percent import duty tariff, the government is expediting negotiations for the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Partnership Agreement (IEU CEPA). Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Lampung Province, the total production of pineapples in 2022 amounted to 8,617,058 quintals, an increase from the previous year's production of 7,058,833 quintals. The main banana production areas in Lampung in 2022 were in Kabupaten Pesawaran, Lampung Selatan, and Lampung Timur.
