The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Riau Province has reported that the export value of commodities from the region in June 2023 amounted to USD 1.70 billion, marking a 20.64% increase compared to May 2023, which stood at USD 1.41 billion. This growth was driven by a 21.57% increase in non-oil and gas exports and a 12.36% increase in oil and gas exports according to the Head of BPS Riau. The value of non-oil and gas exports rose from USD 1.27 billion in May 2023 to USD 1.54 billion in June 2023. Meanwhile, oil and gas exports also increased from USD 142.04 million in May 2023 to USD 159.60 million in June 2023. From January to June 2023, Riau's export value experienced a 12.64% decline compared to the same period the previous year. This decline was attributed to a 12.17% decrease in non-oil and gas exports and a 17.41% decrease in oil and gas exports.
However, in June 2023, five out of the ten non-oil and gas export commodity groups saw an increase. The largest increase was recorded in the category of fats and animal/vegetable oils, amounting to USD 316.80 million, followed by food industry residues and by-products at USD 19.02 million, vegetable materials at USD 11.10 million, organic chemicals at USD 9.25 million, and various chemical products at USD 0.70 million. From January to June 2023, the top 10 main non-oil and gas export commodities (2-digit HS) contributed 99.07% to the total non-oil and gas exports. In terms of growth, these top 10 export commodities experienced a 12.36% decrease compared to the same period in 2022. In January to June 2023, Riau's non-oil and gas exports to China, India, and Malaysia reached USD 1,807.19 million, USD 945.02 million, and USD 609.90 million. Meanwhile, the total value of non-oil and gas exports in June 2023 to 13 countries reached USD 1,220.68 million, marking an increase of 29.2% compared to May 2023. This increase was mainly driven by the rise in export value to key destinations such as India, amounting to USD 113.66 million.
