The export activities of Indonesian-made cars in the first six months of this year increased by 25.1% compared to the previous year. According to data from the Indonesian Automobile Industry Association (Gaikindo), the total volume of completely built-up (CBU) exports reached 248,004 units, up from 198,311 units in 2022. This achievement was contributed by 10 manufacturers, including Daihatsu, Toyota, Mitsubishi Motors, Hyundai, Suzuki, Honda, Isuzu, Wuling, DFSK, and Hino. PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) remained the highest contributor, producing Toyota-branded models, accounting for 33.5% with a volume of 83,203 units. PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) followed closely, exporting 59,742 units (24.1%).
However, in terms of growth rate, the highest increase in export of Indonesian-assembled cars during January-June 2023 was recorded by Mitsubishi Motors at 20%, although the volume remained at 40,463 units. Similarly, there was positive growth in the export of automotive components, which increased by 33.3% year-on-year. According to Gaikindo, during the first semester of 2023, a total of 81,164,612 units of components were shipped from Indonesia to foreign countries. Toyota was the main contributor in this activity, with 75,530,271 units, followed by Honda (3,641,496 units), Hino (1,982,850 units), and Suzuki (71,536 units). Unfortunately, the export of completely knocked-down (CKD) cars slowed down by 49% in the same period, dropping from 51,969 sets to 26,427 sets.
