The Ministry of Industry in Indonesia reports that the chemical, pharmaceutical, and textile industries (IKFT) have remained active, with investments reaching IDR 33.78 trillion in the first quarter of 2023. To ensure the competitiveness and sustainability of the pharmaceutical industry, the Head of the Center for Green Industry at the Ministry of Industry emphasizes the importance of implementing green practices, including managing emissions, improving energy efficiency, reducing water usage, proper waste management, and among other things, continues to promote green procurement.
The Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) supports the implementation of regulations that prioritize environmental preservation in the pharmaceutical and food production processes. Environmental safety is a crucial aspect in the supply chain risk management of these industries, and adherence to environmental social and corporate governance (ESG) standards is now required. BPOM offers incentives and support to industries that comply with environmental considerations, facilitating regulations, providing appreciation, and offering educational support to encourage the production of environmentally friendly products. These measures aim to ensure that products do not contain contaminants and that production waste is managed responsibly to protect the environment. BPOM's involvement in environmental safety aspects is seen as essential for guaranteeing the sustainability of the pharmaceutical and food industries.
