10.500 Tons of Palm Kernel Shells from West Sulawesi Exported to Japan

A total of 10,500 tons of palm kernel shells from West Sulawesi Province (Sulbar) were exported to Japan through Belang Belang Port in Mamuju Regency. The Head of Agricultural Quarantine in Mamuju, stated that the 10,500 tons of palm kernel shells, equivalent to IDR 18 billion, were exported to Japan through Mamuju Port. The palm kernel shells have undergone certification and are deemed eligible for export. The Agricultural Quarantine in Mamuju has conducted the necessary certification, as it is a procedure that exporters must fulfill as one of the requirements set by the destination country to ensure that the palm kernel shells to be exported are free from pests and diseases.

Prior to certification, the Agricultural Quarantine in Mamuju also conducted physical inspections of the palm kernel shells, documents, transportation equipment, and implemented quarantine measures, including fumigation treatment on the palm kernel shells. The export of palm kernel shells from Sulbar to Japan has occurred five times in 2023 to meet the demands of Japan. In total, throughout 2023, the exported palm kernel shells to Japan amounted to 41.840 tons, valued at IDR 71.7 billion. In 2022, the export of palm kernel shells from Sulbar to Japan recorded seven shipments, totaling 66.000 tons. The export volume of palm kernel shells is predicted to increase in 2023.
