The Ministry of Agriculture has stated that the development of agro-educational tourism in Cianjur Regency, West Java, will bring prosperity to the environment. The two agro-educational tourism areas are Artala Agro-Educational Tourism in Cipanas and Shmala Agro-Educational Tourism in Warung Kondang, Tegalega Village, Warungkondang District. The program, which began its development in mid-2022, is expected to help increase the added value of agricultural products and improve the quality of skilled and independent human resources, particularly in the agricultural sector. This will be achieved by harnessing various agricultural tourism resources in the region. Agro-educational tourism is the integration of agriculture (agro), knowledge and skills (edutourism), and agricultural environmental recreation (ekotourism) developed in a sustainable manner. All three components are managed in an integrated manner, utilizing an innovation and professional management-based agricultural approach.
Agro-educational tourism is essentially an agricultural industry managed based on sustainable development principles. Moreover, it becomes a safe, visitor-friendly, and environmentally friendly tourist area for domestic and international tourists. It is expected that the agro-educational tourism areas can establish partnerships with various related agencies, including the creation of on-farm and off-farm initiatives for new businesses. Regarding the development of the two agro-educational tourism areas in Cianjur, Hermanto mentioned that the MoA provides assistance such as the construction of agro-educational tourism facilities, development aid for agro-educational tourism, and the provision of production facilities such as seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, planting media, integration with horticultural, plantation, and livestock commodities.
