Sleman Regency Government Urges Farmers to Expand Baby Cucumber Farming

The Sleman Regency government is strongly committed to improving the welfare of farmers, as evidenced by their efforts to involve women farmers in cultivating baby cucumber (timun baby cup). The head of the Department of Agriculture, Food, and Fisheries of Sleman Regency, Suparmono, stated that cultivating baby cucumber is expected to increase the income of farmers. Baby cucumbers have a faster harvest time and can be harvested repeatedly. In a month, farmers can harvest cucumbers 20 to 35 times from the same plant. With this calculation, a 1,000 square meter area can yield around 3 tons of cucumbers.

Suparmono hopes that farmers can take advantage of this great potential. Cucumbers can be grown on the edges of rice fields, where other crops are also planted. The planting process is expected to begin by July 25th, and it will take approximately one month. The Department of Agriculture is also working on connecting women farmers' groups to potential cucumber markets.

Sleman Regent Kustini SP appreciates the initiative of the Department of Agriculture in involving women farmers in cucumber cultivation, as it will contribute to their welfare. She hopes that the quality of horticultural products in Sleman will continue to improve and encourages women farmers to seize this opportunity to increase their production. She also encourages further innovation in other commodities, emphasizing the collaboration between women farmers and young farmers' groups to generate new ideas using the latest technology, aiming to enhance the welfare of farmers and prosper the agricultural land in Sleman.
