Residents of Surabaya enthusiastically participated in the Java Coffee Culture (JCC) event organized by the East Java Representative Office of Bank Indonesia (KPBI), which generated sales transactions of IDR 25.63 billion. The Head of the East Java Representative Office of Bank Indonesia (KPBI), revealed several factors that contributed to the high transaction figures at JCC this year. Firstly, the exhibited coffees in the business matching event were carefully selected and curated by coffee experts. Additionally, he mentioned that the buyers who attended the event were already familiar with the characteristics and quality of each coffee. Some of the products being sold already had established names, resulting in high demand as soon as they were marketed. Most of the buyers who participated in the business matching were aggregators for exports, with over 70% of the transactions aimed at export. The main export destinations were Japan, Egypt, and Europe. All participants in the business matching are Javanese coffee producers.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, revealed the potential for coffee development in Java. The coffee production in Java in 2022 amounted to 99,000 tons. Spatially, coffee production is distributed across Java, mainly concentrated in the provinces of East Java, Central Java, and West Java. In terms of exports, coffee commodities from Java are dominated by East Java and are primarily exported to Egypt, Japan, and Italy. Roasted coffee commodities in Java are predominantly from East Java, while coffee extract commodities in Java are dominated by Banten. Meanwhile, processed coffee products are mostly exported to the Philippines. The success was not only measured by the value of transactions but also by the enthusiasm of the participants as of July 9th, 2023, the total visitors exceeded 6,000 people. There were 1,447 participants in the talk show, with 32 micro, small, and medium enterprises participating in the workshop.
