The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy expressed appreciation for the successful implementation of the Crossborder Skouw Festival 2023. The event saw the participation of 1000-1500 attendees from both Papua and Papua New Guinea at the border post of the RI-PNG Border Crossing Point (PLBN) in Skouw, Muara Tami District, Jayapura City, Papua. The Minister stated that this event is an implementation of President Joko Widodo's directive to organize various events across Indonesia to promote economic equality among communities. For the third time, the Crossborder Skouw Festival was held at the forefront of the Eastern Indonesian region as part of the efforts to reach the target of 8.5 million foreign tourists and 1.4 billion domestic tourist movements this year, while also enhancing cooperation and friendship between Indonesia and neighboring country Papua New Guinea.This event, initiated by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy in collaboration with a lot of stakeholders, also with local small micro enterprises in Papua. The Crossborder Skouw Festival is a fun festival that encompasses various exciting activities such as music, sports, and SME showcases. A total of 32 booths showcasing local SMEs from various sectors such as F&B, fashion, and souvenirs enlivened the festival. The People's Market and SME Festival also featured a coffee exhibition in collaboration with local coffee shops and baristas. Visitors had the opportunity to not only witness the coffee exhibition but also purchase ready-to-brew or coffee beans. The Minister also expressed his hope for the festival to be held annually in various border areas across Indonesia, aiming to create a wide-ranging multiplier effect in job creation, provide opportunities for local communities to participate, promote local wisdom, and acknowledge and appreciate local cultural heritage, thereby fostering a sense of pride and enhancing the identity of Wonderful Indonesia.
