Non-Oil and Gas Exports in North Kalimantan Reached USD 1.1 Billion

The export of commodities through ports in the province of North Kalimantan in May 2023 experienced a significant increase of 161.30% compared to May 2022, rising from USD 158.21 million to USD 413.40 million. All of these export commodities are non-oil and gas goods, such as wood, fish, flour, fruits, spices, and others, according to the Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics in North Kalimantan. The value of non-oil and gas exports for the period of January to May 2023 reached USD 1.1 billion, representing an increase of 18.64% compared to the period of January to May 2022. The increase in exports in May 2023 compared to May 2022 was mainly due to a 170.19% increase in exports of non-oil and gas mining products, a 44.66% increase in agricultural products, and an 86.29% increase in industrial products. Meanwhile, the native exports of Kalimantan commodities in May 2023 reached USD 196.33 million, showing a 17.34% increase from USD 216.78 million in April 2023. In May 2023, mining products experienced a 9.69% increase in export value, reaching USD 164.07 million, while industrial products increased to USD 28.21 million, a 17.34% increase. The agricultural sector exported goods worth USD 4.05 million, representing a 35.57% increase.

From the total native exports of North Kalimantan, a portion was conducted through ports outside the region, amounting to USD 11.16 million. These exports were mainly through ports in DKI Jakarta (USD 0.17 million), East Java (USD 8.93 million), South Sulawesi (USD 1.55 million), and Riau (USD 0.36 million). The main destinations for North Kalimantan's exports are China (USD 159.98 million), India (USD 91.70 million), Malaysia (USD 43.61 million), the Philippines (USD 30.01 million), and Japan (USD 22.27 million). These five countries accounted for 84.08 percent of North Kalimantan's total exports in May 2023. Imports to North Kalimantan in May 2023 decreased compared to May 2022, by 24.16%, amounting to USD 37.82 million. Cumulatively, the value of imports to North Kalimantan for the period of January to May 2023 reached USD 145.91 million. Therefore, according to the Head of the Central Bureau of Statistics in North Kalimantan, the trade balance of export-import activities through ports in North Kalimantan in May 2023 continued to show a positive value or a surplus of USD 375.75 million. This figure represents an increase of 246.68% compared to the surplus of USD 108.33 million in April 2023.
