Indonesia Officially Launches Blue Economy Roadmap 2023-2045

Indonesia has officially launched the Blue Economy Roadmap for the period 2023-2045. The unveiling of the roadmap took place during the opening of the ASEAN Blue Economy Forum. The launch of the Blue Economy Roadmap was marked by Secretary and Deputy for Economic Affairs of the Ministry of National Development Planning Agency. Deputy for Economic Affairs of the Ministry of National Development Planning Agency, stated that the Blue Economy is one of the priorities for accelerating long-term, inclusive, sustainable, and innovative economic growth in Indonesia. Therefore, the Blue Economy is also a strategic focus for our country. According to the Deputy, in 2021, Ministry of National Development Planning Agency launched the Blue Economy Development Framework for the Indonesian economy. Through this initiative, they learned and developed a shared understanding, which led to the development of the Indonesian Blue Economy Roadmap launched at the event. This is not only a milestone for ASEAN but also for Indonesia.

The Blue Economy holds tremendous untapped potential. Coincidentally, Indonesia will assume the chairmanship of ASEAN in 2023 and has chosen to emphasize the issue of the Blue Economy as its initiative for ASEAN's Blue Economy. ASEAN has vast maritime territories, covering more than 66%, and these waters do not separate ASEAN countries but unite them. It was also highlighted that the Blue Economy, both in Indonesia and within the ASEAN context, encompasses various sectors such as biotechnology, bioconversion, and others. Therefore, as Indonesia assumes the chairmanship of ASEAN in 2023, it will champion the Blue Economy as an initiative within ASEAN. This step holds strategic significance not only for Indonesia but also for ASEAN, and as the largest country in ASEAN, Indonesia should be the leader of ASEAN. The Blue Economy Roadmap is the result of The Ministry work aimed at integrating all the potential for blue economy development from various aspects. In addition to focusing on capture fisheries and aquaculture, this roadmap also considers the potential for development as a new source of growth.
