President Joko Widodo's visit to the PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMNT) smelter is expected to expedite its construction and investment process. The head of West Nusa Tenggara's Investment and Integrated One-Stop Service Agency (DPMPTSP), Mohammad Rum, mentioned that the President's visit aims to ensure the smelter's completion by May, allowing for immediate operations in June 2024. This is crucial for the purification process necessary for copper mineral exports, as failure to meet the timeline would hinder their ability to export.
The construction of the smelter in West Sumbawa Regency represents the largest investment in the area, with a value of IDR 4 trillion out of a total investment realization of IDR 7.8 trillion in the first quarter of 2023. With positive investment trends, Rum is optimistic about reaching the central government's investment target of IDR 22.8 trillion. The mining sector, including related industries, is expected to contribute significantly to the target, with an estimated investment projection of IDR 12 trillion. Additionally, investments in the smelter project and exploration activities in the mining sector play a crucial role. Apart from mining, the provincial government is actively promoting investment in the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ) by providing various incentives and facilities to attract investors, aiming to boost economic growth in the region.
