The abundant potential of pine wood in the Tawangmangu region, Karanganyar, became the initial idea for the establishment of Adi Sutaryo Craft business. This micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) was initiated in 2015 and is led by Adi Sutaryo and his brother. Adi Sutaryo Craft is located in Tawangmangu. Various types of handmade handicraft products using pine wood have been produced, ranging from furniture, kitchenware, decorations, to custom-made products upon request. Adi mentioned that the abundant pine wood at the foot of Mount Lawu had not been optimally utilized. The brothers then attempted to create their first craft product, which was a clothes hanger.
They later expanded their product range to include tissue holders, wall decorations, water bottle holders, jewelry organizers, beds, and table-chair sets. In addition to pine wood, waste from teakwood furniture artisans is also utilized as a crafting material. Step by step, Siswo and Sutaryo brothers explored their craft until their creations came to the attention of the Karanganyar Regional National Crafts Council (Dekranasda). Notably, Adi Sutaryo Craft participated in the International Handicraft Trade Fair (Inacraft) held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). Thanks to the exhibition, Adi Sutaryo Craft's products gained immediate buyers and were exported to the Netherlands. The Covid-19 pandemic has significantly impacted Adi Sutaryo Craft. Before the pandemic, their monthly revenue could reach a minimum of IDR 15 million. However, after the onslaught of Covid-19, their revenue plummeted by 90 percent. This decline is attributed to the absence of exhibitions that Adi Sutaryo Craft could participate in. The sustainability of Adi Sutaryo Craft's business is closely tied to access to funding. As for the payment system, Adi Sutaryo Craft has embraced digitalization.
