The Indonesian Consulate General in Penang, Malaysia, is promoting micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) products and Indonesian tourist destinations by involving various domestic institutions and businesses in the "12th Penang International Halal Expo and Conference (PIHEC)" held in Penang. The event is an effort by the Indonesian Government in Penang to encourage the export of Indonesian MSME products to the northern region of Malaysia and increase the frequency of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia, according to Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Penang. Indonesia's participation in this year's PIHEC is more diverse as it involves various regions in Indonesia. The Indonesian Consulate General's booth features a backdrop of Mount Bromo, adorned with cultural items and video clips showcasing various Indonesian tourist attractions. The booth representing South Sumatra Province showcases woven fabric and Palembang's signature fishcake, while Banyumas Regency's booth showcases coconut sugar, eco-print fashion items, traditional Banyumas batik, and crafts made from mending leaves.
Chief Minister of Penang emphasizes that the halal sector has significant potential to strengthen Penang's economy in the long term by utilizing consumer bases beyond Penang's borders. The exhibition, which is attended by 23 countries including China, Chile, Spain, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Vietnam, highlights that the concept of halal, often associated with Islam, is universal. It is hoped that Penang can become a hub for the halal industry among friendly nations. After the opening of PIHEC, the Chief Minister of Penang specifically visited the Indonesian booth, which attracted many Malaysian visitors, including participants from other exhibitions, who were interested in learning about and obtaining Indonesian products.
