Singajaya Subdistrict, located in Garut Regency, West Java, is one of the major regions known for its abundant production of porang. The porang production in Singajaya can reach up to 10 thousand tons annually, a significant amount that requires professional handling and management. To address this, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia has pledged to assist farmers in cultivation and post-harvest handling. The Director of Agricultural Financing of the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture promises to support the development of porang cultivation in Singajaya. Furthermore, they will also provide assistance in post-harvest processes to ensure that farmers receive fair prices for their porang cultivation. In addition, to facilitate processing, the Ministry of Agriculture plans to establish a rice porang processing factory in Garut Regency. However, it was noted that the production machinery should be domestically manufactured.
Meanwhile, a mentor for farmers in Singajaya, emphasizes the importance of agricultural sector development in improving the welfare of farmers. The abundant agricultural potential in the region, including available land and skilled farmers was also recognized. Furthermore, the region is home to various crops that can become local specialties and even export commodities, such as spices, tubers, and others. Porang is one of them, and it has the potential to become an export commodity, especially if it undergoes processing locally. It will undoubtedly add value to the local community. Porang cultivation has become popular among farmers in Singajaya due to its profitability. The development of porang cultivation in the area has significantly improved the economic conditions of farmers. Currently, there are approximately 50 hectares of land dedicated to porang cultivation in the Singajaya area, and it will be expand in the future.
