The Indonesian automotive industry continues to demonstrate its competitiveness in the global market, with increasing demand from export markets. This signifies that Indonesia is not only a production base but also an export hub for several renowned automotive manufacturers in the country. The Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, highlighted the positive steps taken by the automotive industry in accelerating national economic growth, particularly through the export of Completely Built Up (CBU) vehicles. In the period from January to April 2023, Indonesia exported 166,000 units of CBU vehicles, a 26% increase compared to the same period in 2022. The total value of CBU exports during this period amounted to USD 2.06 billion, a 27.9% increase from 2022. The government acknowledged the contribution of PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), which has been actively involved in the industry for over 50 years and has made significant investments, generated employment, and contributed to exports.
TMMIN's production capacity currently reaches 320,000 units per year, with four factories in Karawang and Sunter producing 440,000 engines and parts. From January to April 2023, TMMIN exported 40,754 units of CBU vehicles, with a cumulative export total of over 2 million units to more than 100 countries. The vehicles are exported to various regions, including the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, Latin America, Oceania, and Australia. The government aims to support the export target of the Yaris Cross, both in gasoline and Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) versions, with 22,000 units to be exported in 2023, accounting for 60% of the total production volume, primarily to countries in Latin America and Asia. By expanding exports, the goal is to penetrate the Australian market, where Toyota has the highest market share.
