PT Perikanan Indonesia has officially obtained halal certification for 99 fishery products issued by the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) and declared halal by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). The halal-certified fishery products include the Tukato Seafood brand, whole frozen fish, fish fillets, fish steak cuts, fish loin, various shrimp species, crabs, lobsters, vacuum-packed fish products, and PT Perikanan Indonesia's presto fish products. PT Perikanan Indonesia has been categorized as 'A' or excellent based on document examination and audit of the halal assurance system implementation by BPJPH under the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. The issuance of the halal certification will increase public trust in the fishery commodities produced by PT Perikanan Indonesia. Now, the halal certification is eligible and valid to be included on labels/logos/brands/catalogs, providing assurance to consumers that the company's products are halal and of the highest quality. The issuance of the halal certification hopefully will expand the export market share, particularly to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and other Middle Eastern countries.
The 99 types of products that have obtained halal certification mostly consist of daily consumption fish. The halal certification obtained by PT Perikanan Indonesia includes ready-to-cook fish products, such as pelagic fish (frozen mackerel, frozen tuna, tuna loin, tuna steak, frozen scads, and deho fish) and demersal fish (snapper fillet, grouper fillet, kuwe fish, banana fish, lemadang fish, and layur fish). In addition, there are also cuttlefish, flower octopus, squid rings, squid tubes and peeled shrimp, block shrimp. It is also hoped that the halal certification will boost the company's performance in the fish processing and trading business line. In 2022, this business line contributed 61% to the company's total revenue. This year, fish processing and trading are targeted to contribute 64% to the revenue, followed by the port business line with 29% and fish feed factories with 7%.
