Impressive Growth: Indonesian Exports Surge to USD 21.72 Million in May 2023

In May 2023, Indonesia recorded a notable increase in its export value, reaching USD 21.72 billion, which marked a significant 12.61% rise compared to April 2023. However, when compared to May 2022, there was a slight decrease of 0.96% in the overall export value. Analyzing the non-oil and gas exports specifically, May 2023 saw a substantial increase of 13.18% amounting to USD 20.40 billion, in comparison to March 2023. Furthermore, when compared to April 2022, the non-oil and gas exports also experienced a growth rate of 1.94%.

Moh. Edy Mahmud, the Deputy of Balance and Statistical Analysis at BPS, highlighted the recurrent pattern observed in export growth, specifically noting an increase in exports following the holiday period. This pattern provides insights into the dynamics of Indonesia's export sector. The notable 13.18% increase in non-oil and gas exports in May 2023 was primarily attributed to the vehicle sector and its associated components, indicating the strength of this industry in driving export growth. On the other hand, the growth in oil and gas exports during the same period was primarily driven by a remarkable 91.89% increase in crude oil exports and a significant 9.40% increase in gas exports. These figures reflect the continuous efforts and developments in Indonesia's energy sector. The consistent growth in export values showcases Indonesia's resilience and potential as a major player in the global market, contributing to the country's economic stability and development.
