According to Indonesia Ministry of Trade, one of the efforts for Indonesia to upgrade its status and become a developed country is to market Indonesian products globally. To achieve this, the government continues to promote the digitalization of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), particularly in Papua Barat (West Papua) by building a partnership ecosystem with MSMEs, local marketplaces, and financial institutions. By the end of 2022, more than 20 million MSMEs have entered the digital ecosystem and the target is 30 million MSMEs onboarding for 2024. Indonesia's digital economy is estimated to reach IDR 130 trillion by 2025. The Ministry of Trade is making various efforts to maintain trade performance, such as promotional activities, trade missions, and trade cooperation. The Deputy Minister revealed that Indonesia currently has 35 agreements, including 9 bilateral agreements for Indonesian MSMEs to enhance access to international markets.
Papua Barat has recorded an economic growth of 3.13% in the first quarter of 2023, and the export of Papua Barat in March 2023 reached 31.4% growth compared to last year. The local government has provided support for MSMEs in Papua Barat regarding the Proud Indonesian Products and Proud Tourism campaigns, include technical guidance on product development and capacity-building for business actors, exhibitions of superior products from Papua Barat, onboarding of MSMEs in local marketplaces, entrepreneurship training involving 40 MSMEs in Papua Barat, the Manokwari Ramadan Festival involving 20 food, handicraft, and herbal MSMEs, and tourism in Manokwari involving 100 culinary MSMEs.
