According to Deputy Minister of Trade, Indonesia is among the countries that have managed to surpass the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. According to him, Indonesia's economy has grown significantly above 5%, with inflation below 6%. Indonesia has proven itself to overcome the pandemic. It is also stated that Indonesia's trade balance achieved a surplus amounting to USD 56.54 billion, and this achievement is the highest in the history of the Republic of Indonesia.
The government also has launched a priority program called the National Movement of Proud Indonesian Products and Proud Tourism in Indonesia (Gernas BBI and BWI). This program aims to empower micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), which currently play a significant role in Indonesia's economic growth. President Joko Widodo also consistently directed MSMEs to upgrade their status in order to build a people-oriented economy. The Gernas BBI and BWI program is fully supported by the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, as the development of MSMEs has become one of the priorities of the Ministry of Trade. In 2023, Papua Barat (West Papua) has been selected as one of the provinces to implement the Gernas BBI and BWI program. With the various potentials of Papua Barat, this program aims to elevate MSMEs in the region to a higher level, not only locally but also attract international attention. The implementation of the Gernas BBI and BWI in Papua Barat has already taken place until last May and included various activities such as exhibitions of superior products from Papua Barat's MSMEs, capacity building for MSMEs, business matching to introduce the tourism potential of Papua Barat to attract tourists, and MSME harvesting.
