Minister SYL Affirms Ongoing Development of Superior Plant Varieties

Indonesia's Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo, highlighted the continuous development of superior plant varieties as a key factor in the country's agricultural success. Advanced agricultural technology and a skilled workforce have enabled Indonesia to become a strong player in the global agriculture sector, ensuring quality and sustainable food security. Notably, rice production has reached impressive yields of over 10 tons per hectare, with some areas achieving up to 14 tons per hectare.

The Minister expressed pride in the resilience of Indonesian crops, including their ability to withstand extreme weather conditions like the ongoing El Niño-induced dry season. He emphasized the potential of Kulon Progo, with its vast rice fields and breathtaking landscapes, to serve as both an agricultural hub and an agro-tourism destination. Precision agriculture and the introduction of superior seed varieties are seen as solutions to enhance productivity and address inflation concerns. The government, along with private sector participation, aims to further develop certified superior seeds that offer higher yields and adaptability to local conditions, thereby strengthening national food security and promoting the welfare of farmers.
