According to Bank Indonesia (BI)’s, digital marketing enables micro, small, and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia to penetrate export markets limitlessly. By embracing digitalization, SMEs are expected to sell their products internationally from their respective regions, and this also highlights the significance of digitization. Bank Indonesia also provide onboarding programs for SMEs as a form of support. The onboarding contains training for SMEs on utilizing their Instagram account to improve their sales, such as how to conduct effective promotions, how to create appealing caption and how to take great photos of their product for their social media post.
In addition to selling products through digital channels using social media, Bank Indonesia also encourages SMEs to participate in e-catalogs. SMEs that have passed the curation process are encouraged to register in the e-catalogs of their respective regions, as 40% of local government purchases must be made through e-catalogs. This will help the buyer to have better look at the diverse products. According to Head of Bank Indonesia Surakarta Office, due to the mandatory nature of e-catalogs imposed by the government, the turnover generated through e-catalogs in Central Java Province alone can reach trillions of rupiah and hopefully this opportunity can be utilized by the SMEs.
