Industry Players Laud Accelerated Investment in Batam

The number of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) projects in Batam City, Indonesia, increased by 100.97% in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, according to the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM). This growth represents an additional 415 projects, bringing the total to 826 FDI projects. Domestic investment also experienced a significant surge of 200.42% during the first quarter, with 1,418 projects recorded. Batam City accounted for 82.9% of the total investment realization in the Riau Islands Province during this period. The positive results are attributed to the strategic plans implemented by the Batam Indonesia Free Trade Zone and Free Port Authority (BP Batam). Their efforts have been recognized and appreciated by industry players, with PT TEC Indonesia, an electronics manufacturing company, highlighting the supportive role of the government in ensuring a smooth production process.

BP Batam's commitment to fostering investment and economic growth in Batam is evident in the city's economic expansion of 6.84% in 2022. PT TEC's remarkable growth, expanding from one to four buildings and employing 1,500 workers, has contributed significantly to the local economy. BP Batam acknowledges and appreciates PT TEC's role in driving economic development, emphasizing its dedication to maintaining a favorable investment environment and ensuring seamless operations. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, PT TEC reported minimal disruptions in logistics and production, reflecting BP Batam's efforts to facilitate and support investment activities.
