Ginger export contract was signed between PT Toba Barika Borneo and PT Alpha Gemilang Sejahtera at the Office of the Governor of North Sumatra, witnessed by the Governor. It was also revealed that the ginger exported meets the stringent standards set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the estimated value of ginger exports reaches USD 210,000. The plan is to export a total of 60 tons of ginger from North Sumatra to the US in the next two months. This ginger originates from farming areas in Simalungun Regency, Deli Serdang Regency, Karo Regency, Samosir Regency, and Toba Regency.
According to Governor of North Sumatra’s statement, the successful export of ginger from North Sumatra to the United States (US) demonstrates the high quality of agricultural commodities in the region and is a good breakthrough to enhance the competitiveness of agricultural commodities in North Sumatra. Ginger exports to the US also provide assurance to farmers that being ginger farmers guarantees their livelihood were also emphasized, because the market’s demand is clear, and the ginger production will be sold at an economic price. The Head of Investment and Integrated One-Stop Service Agency of North Sumatra conveyed that the provincial government continuously encourages the demand for and penetration of agricultural products from North Sumatra into international markets and the potential in the agricultural and plantation sectors in North Sumatra is significant. The provincial government of North Sumatra consistently provides continuous guidance to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and improves agricultural yields, aiming for a good market competitiveness that targets global demand.
