The Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, received appreciation from the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of Indonesia, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, for including the Marine and Fisheries sector in Bali's economic transformation through the concept of Bali's Kerthi Economy. During the 7th Indonesia Tuna Conference and International Coastal Tuna Business Forum, Governor Koster expressed gratitude to the Minister for choosing Bali as the venue for the event, emphasizing the significance of discussing the necessary actions for the sustainability of Tuna Fisheries in Indonesia and the world.

Governor Koster highlighted Bali's strategic position in managing and utilizing fishery resources, particularly tuna, as it is located in the center of the Indonesian Fisheries Management Area. Bali has become a significant contributor to Indonesia's capture fisheries, especially in the Tuna-Tongkol-Cakalang (TTC) sector, with a substantial fleet of 762 fishing vessels and a production of 51,897.1 tons of Tuna, Tongkol, and Cakalang in 2021. Bali's fishery industry, supported by 75 medium-large-scale fish processing units, has witnessed significant export growth, with 26,825 tons of fishery products exported in 2021, valued at USD 131.25 million.

Minister Trenggono emphasized Indonesia's position as the largest producer of tuna, cakalang, and tongkol globally, contributing approximately 15% of the world's production. With comprehensive management plans and regulations in place, Indonesia is committed to protecting national tuna fisheries and supporting the preservation of marine resources. The Minister commended Bali's efforts in transforming its economy and expressed hope that the tuna industry would further contribute to the conservation of fish resources, coastal areas, marine health, and the welfare of small-scale fishermen.
