Highly Attractive Sectors for Prospective Investors in IKN

The Indonesian Ministry of Investment (BKPM) has revealed which industries have piqued the interest of prospective investors in the future Indonesia’s new capital city (IKN), with infrastructure, trade, and services leading the list. BKPM's Deputy for Investment Climate Development, Yuliot, revealed that the most recent investor to indicate interest via a Letter of Interest (LOI) is from Japan.

According to Yuliot, around 220 LoI have been received for investment in the IKN, with an additional 24 from Japan. These figures are based on investment data that BKPM has access to. In addition, the ministry assists interested investors in carrying out their investment activities in the IKN. Yuliot further revealed that there are 13 sectors attracting potential investors. 35 companies are keen on investing in infrastructure, while 32 are interested in commerce and services. Renewable energy (EBT) and telecommunications and information rank third, each attracting 23 enterprises. Other industries that have stirred investor interest include housing (17 possible investors), education (16 enterprises), and consulting services (16 prospective investors). Twelve companies are interested in the retail sector. Waste management has drawn 11 corporations, healthcare facilities have drawn 7 investors, while office buildings, connection and transportation, and industrial zones have each drawn four investors.

Meanwhile, Bambang Susantono, the Head of the New Capital City Authority (OIKN), stated that 36 potential investors have entered the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) stage out of the 220 LoIs. He also stated that numerous investors had visited the IKN firsthand to check the seriousness of the development. Bambang emphasized his hope for widespread support from all segments of society for the IKN's development. He underlined the necessity of looking beyond the short term for the new capital city and focusing on the long term vision, as the goal is to develop a futuristic metropolis that will last past 2024 and beyond 2045.
