Italian Manufacturing Industry Achieves Milestone with Exports Surpassing 50%, Anticipates Annual Growth of +1.3% by 2024-2027

This year, the Made in Italy manufacturing sector is set to achieve a significant milestone by exporting more than 50% of its production, marking the first time in history. The Intesa Sanpaolo report, 'Analysis of Industrial Sectors,' highlights this accomplishment and provides insights into the Italian industrial landscape. The success can be attributed to the renowned quality and appeal of Made in Italy manufacturing, particularly in the medium-to-high-end market segment.

Furthermore, the report predicts a higher growth rate for the Italian manufacturing sector in the years ahead. From 2024 to 2027, an average annual growth rate of 1.3% at constant prices and 2% at current prices is expected. These projections indicate the industry's resilience and potential for continued expansion, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and the economic impact of the conflict in Ukraine.

While celebrating these achievements, the Intesa Sanpaolo report also raises attention to two potential concerns. Firstly, there is a generation gap and an aging workforce in the industry compared to the international average, with a lower percentage of workers under 40 and a higher percentage of managers over 60 in Italy. Addressing these issues will be crucial to ensuring the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the Italian manufacturing sector.
