Fish Production in West Pasaman Reaches 44,112 Tons by May

Fish production in West Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra, reached 44,112 tons by May 2023, out of the targeted 114,813 tons for the year. Zulfi Agus, the Head of the West Pasaman Fisheries Department, expressed optimism in achieving the set target through various measures. The achieved production includes 41,600 tons from capture fisheries and approximately 2,512 tons from aquaculture. Efforts to reach the production target involve providing assistance such as fishing equipment, infrastructure, and improving the skills of fishermen through training and guidance. The majority of the fish caught include tuna, mackerel, red snapper, and various other species. The fish produced in West Pasaman are of high quality and are competitive with other fish-producing regions in Indonesia. They are not only sold in West Sumatra but also distributed to other provinces and even exported abroad.
