World Bank Applauds Indonesia's Green Economic Transformation

The World Bank has expressed its appreciation for Indonesia's commitment and consistent efforts to transform its economy into a green and sustainable one. Satu Kahkonen, the World Bank's Country Director for Indonesia and Timor-Leste, directly conveyed this appreciation to Dr. Moeldoko, the Chief of Presidential Staff, at the Bina Graha Building in Jakarta on Tuesday (May 16) afternoon. Kahkonen stated that "Indonesia's economic growth has an impact on carbon emissions production, as is the case in other developing countries. However, the good news is that the rate of carbon emissions production in Indonesia is not as fast as its per capita income growth."

According to data from the Indonesia Country Climate and Development Report (CCDR), Indonesia's economic growth rate has consistently increased, but its carbon emissions have shown a downward trend. Furthermore, various government policies related to land restoration, deforestation prevention, land mapping improvements, and the establishment of special land management institutions have been deemed significant in reducing carbon emissions production. Dr. Moeldoko also praised the World Bank for producing the independent CCDR research, which explains the relationship between economic growth and climate change, and portrays the profile of economic growth and efforts to address climate change.
