Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin has announced the government's commitment to promoting the development of the pharmaceutical industry in Indonesia to enhance health resilience. The government plans to implement regulations that will compel the industry to produce pharmaceutical products comprehensively, from upstream to downstream. In addition to regulatory measures, the government will offer attractive incentives to support businesses in the sector. Budi emphasized the importance of creating a robust pharmaceutical industry ecosystem to ensure the availability of medicines for the population.
During the National Forum on Downstreaming and Increasing the Use of Domestic Pharmaceutical Preparations, Budi highlighted the lessons learned from the Covid-19 pandemic and stressed the significance of self-reliance in healthcare. The government aims to provide various facilitations to enable the Indonesian pharmaceutical industry to compete with global counterparts such as China and India. By streamlining licensing procedures, promoting data transparency, and offering appealing incentives, the government aims to foster a thriving industry that contributes to the country's economic growth and reduces dependence on imports.
