Indonesia's Manufacturing PMI Soars to Impressive Heights

According to a survey by S&P Global, Indonesia's manufacturing sector continues to expand, with the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) rising to 52.7 in April from 51.9 in March, mainly due to the increasing domestic demand. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that the manufacturing PMI is in expansion territory, above the neutral 50.0 mark, for 20 consecutive months, and this good performance needs to be maintained and improved. In contrast, the industrial sector in some advanced countries is still experiencing contraction, according to their manufacturing PMIs, including Germany, France, the UK, South Korea, and Japan.

Kartasasmita added that the PMI and Industry Confidence Index (IKI) results indicate that industrial players and investors in Indonesia remain optimistic and confident in running their businesses, with a belief in the improving market conditions and supportive government programs and policies to create a conducive business climate. The Ministry of Industry will focus on optimizing the Domestic Product Usage Promotion (P3DN) program to strengthen domestic market demand and proactively expand export markets, particularly to non-traditional countries. Furthermore, recent agreements signed by the Indonesian government and national industry players with global partners at the Hannover Messe 2023 exhibition can bring positive impacts on improving the competitiveness of Indonesian industries and expanding the market access.
