Spicing Up the Market: Indonesia's Pepper Exports Valued Over USD 775 Million from 2018 to 2022!

Indonesia's pepper exports from 2018 to 2022 reached USD 775 million with an average trading volume of 45 thousand tons, according to the Central Statistics Agency. Despite being the world's third-largest producer of pepper, Indonesia faces challenges such as low prices at the farmer level. The Director General of International Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Trade, Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, highlighted the need to promote and maintain Indonesia's reputation for producing high-quality pepper through good agricultural practices, innovation, and marketing strategies during the International Pepper Day celebration in Jakarta on April 13th.

The Indonesian government is supporting the development of the pepper sector and aims to increase the production of high-value-added pepper. Djatmiko emphasized that innovation is crucial in creating value-added pepper products and achieving remunerative prices. The International Pepper Day celebration also included recognition for outstanding pepper businesses in Indonesia and a webinar with stakeholders to discuss strategies for advancing the pepper industry.
