The mining subsector in Kaltim, Indonesia, is one of the most attractive to investors mainly because it has natural resources as its only commodity. In 2022, the investment in the mining subsector reached IDR 15.01 trillion, contributing 37.91% to the realization of investment in all sectors. The chemical and pharmaceutical industry subsector ranked second with IDR 14.91 trillion, followed by the food crop, plantation, and livestock subsector with IDR 3.65 trillion. 22 subsectors highly contributed to the realization of investment for PMDN in 2022, with 16,310 Indonesian workers employed in the mining subsector and 17 foreign workers.
In the food industry subsector, 3,427 Indonesian workers and only 2 foreign workers were employed. The total number of Indonesian workers employed in the food crop, plantation, and livestock subsector was 11,491, with only 2 foreign workers.
