The islands of Rempang and Galang are expected to become a new economic zone in Batam, Indonesia, with plans for large-scale investment to develop the area into the largest glass factory in Asia. The Head of BP Batam, Muhammad Rudi, has met with the Shenzhen Greater Bay Area Financial Institute from China, a credible institution that has assisted in the planning and development of special economic zones in Shenzhen. Rudi stated that the presence of these investors is expected to have a positive impact on Batam's economy, and detailed spatial development plans for Rempang and Galang are already in place. The development of these new economic zones is aimed at boosting the economic growth of Batam, with a target growth rate of over 7% set by BP Batam.
To achieve this growth, BP Batam is not only focusing on attracting investments but also prioritizing infrastructure development. This includes road expansions, the development of Hang Nadim Batam International Airport, and the enhancement of Batu Ampar Port. Additionally, BP Batam has recently imported a Ship-to-Shore (STS) crane to accelerate loading and unloading activities at Batu Ampar Port. The Chairman of the Indonesian Employers' Association (APINDO) in Batam, Rafki Rasyid, has praised the strategic plans of BP Batam to boost the local economic growth and expressed support for efforts to attract new investors. The goal is to transform Batam into a modern city in the coming months.
