Indonesia's trading company, PT Perusahaan Perdagangan Indonesia (PPI), Member of ID Food, has become the Implementing Body for Trade Offsetting, sending 25 tons of coffee worth USD60,000 to Egypt. The export event was officiated by Didi Sumedi, Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade, along with other dignitaries including the Ambassador of Egypt to Indonesia, H.E Ashraf Sultan, and PPI's CEO, Nina Sulistyowati. PPI had previously signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on trade offsetting cooperation with A to Z for Import & Export Company in Egypt.
PPI and A to Z for Import & Export Company are implementing trade offsetting in their respective countries by preparing products or commodities for export or import to Indonesia and Egypt. In the first phase of trade offsetting, Indonesia exported 25 tons of coffee worth USD60,000, while Egypt exported 50 tons of dates with the same value. PPI collaborated with the Gunung Luhur Berkah Cooperative, a local coffee producer in Subang, as the exporter and importer from Indonesia for this trade offsetting scheme.
PPI, as the Implementing Body for Trade Offsetting, aims to develop other export potentials from Indonesia to Egypt in the future, supported by its position within the ID Food state-owned food holding company as a trade and logistics aggregator. The Ministry of Trade, represented by Bara Krishna Hasibuan, Special Staff to the Minister of Trade, commended PPI and the Gunung Luhur Berkah Cooperative for their support in the government's program to boost exports and save foreign exchange through trade offsetting, and highlighted that this trade transaction will be presented as a success story during the upcoming trade mission to Egypt in mid-May 2023, led by the Minister of Trade.
