This Year, Indonesia's Economy is Optimistic to Grow 5.3 Percent

Deputy for Digital Economy, Employment and MSME Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Rudy Salahuddin, said that the government is optimistic that Indonesia's economic growth in 2023 will be able to reach 5.3 percent.

"Supported by strong domestic economic fundamentals such as increases in consumption, investment and also exports, Indonesia's economic growth target is optimistic that it will grow 5.3 percent year-on-year and continue to increase in 2024 by 5.4 percent year-on-year. -year," said Rudy, in the webinar Akurat.co, in Jakarta, Tuesday (28/3/2023).

Rudy conveyed, to be able to achieve this target, the government has prepared three schemes starting from the short term, medium term, to long term schemes.

For the short-term scheme, Rudy explained, the government would encourage the use of domestic products, empower and expand access to People's Business Credit (KUR) as an engine for MSME development, control inflation in order to maintain people's purchasing power, as well as efforts to strengthen the domestic market.

Then for the medium-term scheme, the government will strengthen the tourism sector, build downstream natural resource industries, and diversify export markets.

"The government continues to encourage the strengthening of the tourism sector through a program to develop special economic zones for tourism, then build natural resource-based downstream industries (Natural Resources), and diversify export markets, as well as increasing bilateral and multilateral cooperation," said Rudy.

For the long-term scheme, the government will create more new jobs by increasing ease and certainty in building a business, increasing investment, protecting and empowering MSME actors through the establishment of the Job Creation Law.

Rudy continued, currently the Indonesian economy is considered capable of showing resilience in the midst of global economic uncertainty.

"It has been proven that throughout 2022, Indonesia recorded an impressive cumulative growth of 5.31 percent, and this figure was able to exceed the target set by the government, which was 5.2 percent," said Rudy.
