Chairperson of Indonesia's People's Consultative Assembly and Vice Chairman of Golkar Party, Bambang Soesatyo, has welcomed Aladdin Group's collaboration with PT Bder Ventures Indonesia to develop social commerce, metaverse, education, tourism, and games modules in Indonesia. Particularly, in promoting halal products from various small and medium-sized businesses in Indonesia to the international market.
"Aladdin Group has a presence in at least 45 countries with 5 billion consumers, where 1.45 billion of them are Muslims. Collaborating with PT Bder Ventures Indonesia is a strategic step for Aladdin Group to strengthen its position in the global halal product market, as well as providing benefits for Indonesia through PT Bder Ventures Indonesia so that its various halal products can reach a wider audience," said Bamsoet after meeting with Aladdin Group Founder Dato' Sri Desmond To in Jakarta on Monday (3/20/23).
As the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, as reported by the Global Religious Futures, which predicts that in 2020 the number of Muslims in Indonesia reached 229.6 million or about 13% of the world's Muslim population, the potential for the development of the Islamic economy and halal products in Indonesia is enormous.
The State of the Global Islamic Economy Report (SGIE) 2020/2021 notes Indonesia's strong role in seven sectors of the global Islamic economy. For example, in the halal food sector, out of a total of USD 1.17 trillion spent by 1.9 billion Muslims worldwide, USD 144 billion was spent in Indonesia. Out of the USD 66 billion spent in the halal cosmetics sector, USD 4 billion was spent in Indonesia. And out of the around USD 2.88 trillion Islamic finance industry worldwide, USD 99.2 billion was spent in Indonesia.
"The SGIE Report 2020/2021 also predicts that by 2024, the world's halal food consumption will increase from USD 1.17 trillion in 2019 to USD 1.38 trillion. Muslim fashion consumption will increase from USD 277 billion to USD 311 billion. This increase will not only occur in Muslim-majority countries such as the Middle East but also in other non-Muslim majority countries in Europe. Because non-Muslim consumers also believe that the halal label is not only related to religion but also to the cleanliness and safety of a product," explained Bamsoet.
As the Vice Chairman of Pemuda Pancasila and Head of the Law Enforcement, Defense, and Security Relations Body of KADIN Indonesia, he explained that the SGIE also reported that in 2019 alone, 1.9 billion Muslims around the world spent USD 2.02 trillion to meet their needs for various products that comply with sharia principles. This shows the enormous potential of the global Islamic economy and halal products market.
"Advancing Muslims through various sharia-based products and industries is not about opposing people of other religions. But it is an alternative way out of the world's chaotic condition due to being plagued by capitalism and liberalism for too long, which has made the rich even richer and the poor even more oppressed. The face of the world should no longer be dominated by the conflict between the rich and the poor. Instead, it should be transformed into mutual assistance and solidarity among people that give everyone the opportunity to achieve prosperity and well-being," concluded Bamsoet.
