The importance of collaboration in pursuit of downstreaming was emphasized by the Indonesian Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, affirming that Indonesia extends a wide opportunity for eligible countries to collaborate and work together. Bahlil delivered the remarks during his Friday visit to the University of Indonesia, Depok, West Java.
The minister stated that the country is conscious of the fact that it cannot independently promote the downstreaming aspect, hence why it’s necessary for the country to set up partnerships with qualified countries. "Currently, we need support and collaboration in terms of tech, in particular. We collaborate with China and some other countries. We convince them that Indonesia is a (great) place to put (their) investment in," the minister previously said.
Bahlil said that the Indonesian government has always pushed towards the nation-branding efforts where Indonesia would be seen as a promising destination for investment. This, the minister said, has been apparent in the government's policy to stop raw material exports to focus better on downstreaming efforts and arrange the necessary steps for partnerships with other countries.
Ari Kuncoro as the rector of the University of Indonesia agreed that investment will drive for partnerships in the technological sector. He also pointed out the Investment Ministry's role as an entry for collaboration in Indonesia. "Investment brings technology in and creates collaboration. Through technology, the country can make a great leap towards national advancement in 2045. Collaboration is important to improve the economy and save up the budget in the midst of global turmoil. This Investment Ministry is responsible as the gateway of investment into Indonesia, for which the benefits will end up in regions," the rector noted.
