The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is collaborating with Google Arts & Culture in an effort to preserve Indonesian maritime culture. This collaboration was carried out by launching the Marine Heritage Gallery on the Google Arts & Culture page. For information, Google Arts & Culture is a non-profit or non-commercial initiative from Google with a mission to preserve and bring art and culture online so that it can be enjoyed by anyone in any part of the world.
In this collaboration, there are 9 stories launched by Marine Heritage Gallery on Google Arts & Culture. Some of them are A Glimpse on 4,000 Years of Boat making, Shipwrecks as a Time Capsule, Instruments of Worship from Cirebon Shipwreck, and others. In addition, through Google Arts & Culture you can also view the Marine Heritage Gallery collection in the form of Sunken Ship Loading Objects (BMKT). Marine Heritage Gallery is the only special and thematic gallery in Indonesia that displays BMKT as its collection. In the dashboard of the Marine Heritage Gallery, what is displayed is a collection from the 10th century AD, lifted from the North Java Sea, Cirebon. "We hope that the close collaboration that has been established, one of which is with the launch of the Marine Heritage Gallery, can be a start for us to continue to be present and assist the Indonesian government in its efforts to preserve maritime culture and wealth through the use of technology and information," said the Head of Government Relations and Public Policy. , Google Cloud Indonesia Brigitta Ratih E. Aryanti at the Launching of the Marine Heritage Gallery Page on the Google Arts & Culture Page at the KKP office, Jakarta, Monday (13/3/2023).
In the same vein, the Director General of Maritime Services of the KKP Miftahul Huda hopes that through this collaboration it can expose or provide a good narrative regarding BMKT in Indonesia. "Because we have quite large BMKT points and the President has issued Presidential Regulation Number 8 of 2023 concerning Management of Sinking Ships' Cargo Objects, we hope to have a good exposure or good narrative related to how BMKT exists in Indonesia, so that there is a maritime history. What can we say," he explained.
