Support IKN Food Security, BI Encourages Agricultural Modernization in Kalimantan

Bank Indonesia (BI) together with the Kalimantan Province Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) carried out the Kalimantan Regional Food Inflation Control National Movement (GNPIP) with the theme "Gawi Sabumi Bajaga Kalimantan Inflation". This activity promotes innovation in the form of developing modernized upstream-downstream agriculture (integrated digital farming), in order to encourage production optimization and efficiency of food prices in the medium to long term, especially in supporting the food security of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN). Therefore, GNPIP Kalimantan through upstream-downstream agricultural modernization is trying to transform ex-mining land and peatland using soil sensors. Compliance with soil nutrition is also complemented, as well as more adaptive superior seeds. Deputy Governor of BI, Dody Budi Waluyo said, at the PTBI 2022 event at the end of last November, BI again emphasized the importance of policy synergy and innovation, as the key to resilience and saving the economy from crisis risks. The synergy in overcoming inflation at the global level is realized through the commitment of the world's main Archipelago as one of the agreements in the G20 Presidency.

"We invite all elements of the local government and their ranks, business actors and farmers to routinely monitor developments in production and distribution from upstream to downstream to build food security in the Kalimantan region and its surroundings," he said. Moreover, he continued, South Kalimantan (Kalsel) will become one of the provinces that is relied on to support the supply of food in the IKN. So steps to strengthen inflation control, especially rice, need to be taken in a broad dimension. This is done both in the short term and in the long term. Through the use of environmentally friendly and technology-based resources. Responding to the importance of synergy in controlling inflation, the Governor of South Kalimantan, Sahbirin Noor, gave his response. He also supports the spirit of "Gawi Sabumi Bajaga Kalimantan Inflation", by continuing to encourage concrete steps to increase food production in the Kalimantan region. The current high inflationary pressure requires extra efforts. Among other things, by strengthening interventions related to inflation control, especially food inflation, so that the inflation rate can be kept to a minimum.
"Inflation control and increased food production need to be maintained for the long term through the use of urban and digital farming. Besides that, modernization of the upstream and downstream sides of agriculture needs to be strengthened in increasing agricultural production in the Kalimantan region and being able to contribute to supporting the food security of the new IKN," he said.

Various strategic steps were also taken by Bank Indonesia Representative Offices throughout Kalimantan in supporting the GNPIP implementation. Among them, through expanding the implementation of Horticultural Villages, urban farming, facilitating food offtakers, downstreaming agricultural products, and distributing digital farming Dedication Programs for the Country.
Bearing in mind, the island of Kalimantan is not a food production center area. Thus, each province has carried out the expansion of Inter-Regional Cooperation. Both between Kalimantan and outside Kalimantan, especially from Java and Sulawesi.
"Furthermore, the role of BUMD Food in regional Kalimantan is also strengthened so that it can assist the government in meeting the food needs of the community and also play a role as a food price stabilizer," he said.
