The Office of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DKP) of the Province of East Kalimantan (Kaltim) stated that East Kalimantan's capture fisheries production from both sea waters and inland public waters (PUD) is around 166,376.85 tons per year.
"The capture fisheries production was 166,376.85 tons, consisting of 122,998.71 tons or 73.92 percent of marine waters. While the catch from inland waters amounted to 43,378.14 tons or 26.08 percent," said the Head of the East Kalimantan DKP's Marine Spatial Management Division, Muhammad Ali Aripe in Samarinda, Wednesday.

Aripe explained, production of 166,376.85 tons, of which 74 percent of production came from coastal areas. The East Kalimantan region has a coastline of 3,776 kilometers. Kutai Kartanegara Regency is 1,571 km long, Berau Regency is 1,098 km long, East Kutai is 542 km long, Paser is 244 km, Bontang is 139 km, PPU is 102 km, Balikpapan is 76 km, and Samarinda is 2 km.

According to him, fishery production in East Kalimantan is quite large because it is supported by a long coastline. This is because looking at the sea space zone in East Kalimantan, the fishery area covers 2,024,698.52 hectares or 69.85 percent.
Aripe stated, referring to the Decree of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Number 19 of 2022 concerning estimation of the potential for fish resources (SDI).
The number of catches allowed and the level of utilization of fish resources (SDI) in the Fisheries Management Area of the Republic of Indonesia (WPPRI) is WPP 713 in the Makassar Strait, Bone Bay, Flores Sea and Bali Sea with an estimated potential of 1,073,147 tons.
"While the 716 fisheries management areas are in the waters of the Sulawesi Sea and to the north, Halmahera Island with an estimated potential catch of 626,045 tonnes," said Aripe.
